False Goldrim Flatworm, Pseudobiceros #14

This beautiful flatworm can easily be mistaken for the Goldrim Flatworm, but it is far more “ruffly”, both marginally and around its pseudo-tentacles.  This particular individual (and I have only seen one of these relatively rare flatworms) was found in a backwater lagoon in La Perouse Bay.  At one point (when we gently moved its sea cucumber shelter to get a better look, it began to swim (an unusual movement for these particular worms).  The colour differentiation is due to different cameras and different camera exposures. They can reach 50 mm or 2″, but this animal was approximately 25 mm or 1″.   See John Hoover’s Flatworm site for more information regarding this worm and the two others it is often mistaken for.
