Finally! 2026 turned out to be the year I finally found a couple of very young Placida dendritica. They’ve probably been staring me right in the face. I’d like to say I just learned to see, to look for the right algae in the right area, somewhat protected from the greater sea and huge surge. But the truth is, this little sapsucker actually found me. A large wave came into a small cove, I reached out to protect myself behind a rock and grazed some algae. The tiny sapsucker found my glove. I thought it was just more algae, went to brush it off and realized it was moving. THEN I started looking! And I found more — the colour of their dendritic branches (basically their digestive system) ranging from brown to green, their bodies more or less a pale yellow/white to translucent. 3-5 mm? Very very tiny.
